Amazon is preparing to invest $10 billion in new data centers in the U.S. state of North Carolina. This move is part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its artificial intelligence infrastructure. The project is expected to create around 500 jobs in the region.
Amazon to invest $10 billion in data centers
The investment is included in Amazon’s total capital expenditure budget of $100 billion for 2025. A significant portion of this budget is planned specifically for artificial intelligence technologies and competition in this space. The company’s growing cloud infrastructure forms the backbone of its rivalry with Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI.

In a blog post, Amazon stated that the increasing demand for computing power driven by generative AI has created the need for new data centers. With this investment, the company aims to strengthen its AWS infrastructure in North Carolina to better support AI-related needs.
The decision marks a continuation of Amazon’s ongoing expansion across the U.S. Back in January, the company announced another data center project worth at least $11 billion in the state of Georgia. Together, these two projects bring the total cost of new initiatives in just these two states to $21 billion.
Over the past year, Amazon has made numerous efforts in both hardware and software within the generative AI space. The company developed its own language models, launched custom AI chips named Trainium, and introduced a platform called Bedrock to support third-party models.
