AMD’s AI-powered image scaling technology, FSR 4 (FidelityFX Super Resolution), is now widely available. With driver update 25.9.1, the company has made it possible to enable FSR 4 in more than 85 DirectX 12-based games that previously supported FSR 3.1.

FSR 4 system coming to FSR 3.4-supported games

FSR 4 is positioned as a response to its competitor, Nvidia’s DLSS 4 solution. The technology uses machine learning algorithms to predict missing pixels at low resolutions and produce sharp, high-resolution images. This allows gamers to achieve higher image quality without sacrificing performance. AMD describes this new version as a significant improvement over FSR 3.

With the new driver, users in FSR 3.1-based games can manually enable FSR 4 through the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition application. This process replaces the game’s existing FSR 3.1 integration with FSR 4.

Announced in March with the RX 9000 series graphics cards, FSR 4 has already become available in popular games like Cyberpunk 2077, Ghost of Tsushima, and F1 25.

AMD’s move takes the competition in image scaling technology to a new level. NVIDIA’s DLSS technology was particularly notable for its in-game integration and performance. However, AMD has opted to expand its technology to more games by offering driver-level integration.

This development allows users with older-generation FSR-compatible cards to benefit from the visual and performance improvements brought by FSR 4. This is seen as a significant step forward in the gaming experience in the technology market.
