New details have emerged regarding AMD’s upcoming RDNA 5 Radeon graphics cards, which will be unveiled in 2026. Leaked information suggests that the flagship RDNA 5 model could boast over 12,000 cores.

AMD is Coming with the RDNA 5 Architecture

According to a report shared on the Chiphell forums, the RDNA 5 architecture will feature 128 cores per Compute Unit (CU). This represents a two-fold increase from the 64-core CU design in the current RDNA 4. With the new configuration, the highest-end RDNA 5 GPU will offer a total of 12,288 cores with 96 CUs.

The mid-range model is expected to feature 40 CUs and 5,120 cores, the low-end model will feature 24 CUs and 3,072 cores, and the entry-level model will feature 12 CUs and 1,536 cores. This scalability will make the series more flexible across different price segments.

AMD launched with only two GPU dies (Navi 48 and Navi 44) with RDNA 4. However, with RDNA 5, it will pursue a strategy similar to the RDNA 2 era, using four different dies. This could provide a stronger position against Nvidia’s RTX 50 series, especially in the higher-end model.

The most striking aspect of RDNA 5 is the increased core count. The Navi 31’s 6,144 cores are nearly doubled. This represents a threefold increase compared to the RDNA 4 Navi 48 GPU. Significant improvements are also expected in ray tracing and AI-enabled graphics processing.

Experts suggest that with RDNA 5, AMD could return to the “ultra-enthusiast” segment, a segment it has been avoiding for some time. AMD, which fell behind Nvidia after the RDNA 2 era, where the RX 6900 XT competed with the RTX 3090, may have a chance to close this gap with RDNA 5. The new GPU family is expected to enter mass production in the second quarter of 2026.
