AMD has achieved a major transformation in graphics cards with the RDNA 4 graphics architecture. The new generation GPU architecture offers higher processing power, advanced ray tracing performance and artificial intelligence accelerations compared to the previous RDNA 3. Especially with the Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards, it maximises performance for both gamers and content producers.
All about AMD RDNA 4 graphics architecture!
RDNA 4 comes with improved Compute Units and next-generation ray tracing accelerators. With 56 to 64 compute units, the architecture offers increased processing capacity in each unit, increasing frame rates. Enhanced hardware ray tracing engines provide better reflections, shadows and global lighting effects in games.

It also includes AI-based compute accelerators. AMD’s AI TOPS computational power increases by more than 40 per cent compared to RDNA 3. AI optimisations enable better DLSS alternative upscaling methods in games and accelerated video rendering. RDNA 4, which is fully compatible with FSR 4, hardware enhances frame generation support.

On the memory side, RDNA 4 uses GDDR6 memory and comes with 16 GB VRAM. The new Infinity Cache technology increases memory bandwidth and provides better data transfer at high resolutions. With the PCIe 5.0 interface, high data transfer speeds are offered with the latest generation processors and motherboards.

On the energy efficiency side, RDNA 4 provides higher performance with lower power consumption. Offering 20 per cent more efficient power usage compared to RDNA 3, the new chips create a cooler and more stable working environment. With 220W – 304W power consumption, RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT models consume less energy than competing models.
On the connection options side, RDNA 4 offers DisplayPort 2.1a and HDMI 2.1b support. The new generation graphics cards, which can provide up to 8K 80Hz image output, offer a smoother experience for monitors with high refresh rates.
On the software side, HYPR-RX technology is compatible with FSR 4, Anti-Lag+ and AI-based image enhancement systems. Next-generation AMD Fluid Motion Frames technology optimises frame generation for higher FPS and smoother animations.
It also offers up to 50 per cent FPS increase in game performance compared to the previous generation. Games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Baldur’s Gate 3, Star Citizen and Cyberpunk 2077 achieve 2.5 times more FPS. Advanced ray tracing performance is competitive with NVIDIA’s RTX series.
RDNA 4 architecture offers more flexibility to developers with open source software. AMD is also using ONNX-based AI accelerators to optimise RDNA 4-powered AI and content production applications. Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, Stable Diffusion and Procyon AI applications achieve speed increases of up to 70 percent.
