FSR 4, the new upscaling technology introduced by AMD at Gamescom 2025, has begun to be used by modders in more games, despite not having official support. This could accelerate the technology’s adoption.
FSR 4 Can Be Used in More Games
Despite AMD’s announcement of FSR 4.0.2 and FidelityFX SDK 2.0, the number of supported games still lags behind Nvidia’s DLSS 4. However, the modding community has begun to change this by using popular tools like DLSS Swapper.

Developers have successfully integrated FSR 4 DLLs into games that are not officially supported. Initial tests in games like Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered are showing promising results. However, some compatibility issues persist on the Linux side.
Another factor that has made things easier for modders is the FSR 4 source code, which AMD recently released and then withdrew. This source code allowed modders to enable FSR 4 even in unsupported games.
Furthermore, an alternative tool called OptiScaler offers greater flexibility by modifying the upscaling methods in games that support DLSS 2, FSR 2, and XeSS. While not yet as mature as DLSS Swapper, this tool allows testing solutions for different GPUs across hundreds of games.
The source code leak also revealed that AMD is testing a “lightweight” version of FSR 4 for the RX 7000 series graphics cards. While not as powerful as the RX 9000 series, this version will offer an improvement for older-generation cards.
