American Airlines announced it will offer free high-speed Wi-Fi on most of its flights starting January 2026. This service will be available exclusively to members of the airline’s AAdvantage loyalty program, which is free to join.
The initiative, in partnership with AT&T, aims to provide complimentary internet access on approximately 90% of American’s fleet. This includes aircraft equipped with Viasat and Intelsat high-speed satellite connectivity. The airline is also working to equip over 500 regional aircraft with this technology by the end of 2025.
Wi-Fi no cost to most loyal customers
“Our customers greatly value staying connected while in the air,” said Heather Garboden, Chief Customer Officer at American Airlines. “We’ve been working diligently to outfit our aircraft with best-in-class high-speed Wi-Fi and, together with AT&T, are proud to offer these services at no cost to our most loyal customers.”
The airline has already conducted successful test runs on select routes, reporting that the service surpassed performance expectations.
This move positions American Airlines alongside competitors like Delta Air Lines, which began offering free Wi-Fi to loyalty members on most domestic flights in 2023, and United Airlines, which plans to introduce free satellite internet using SpaceX’s Starlink system.
To access the free Wi-Fi, passengers must be members of the AAdvantage program. Enrollment is free and can be completed online or through the airline’s mobile app. Once onboard, members can connect to the Wi-Fi network and enjoy uninterrupted internet access throughout their flight.
This development reflects the growing demand for in-flight connectivity and the airline industry’s efforts to meet passenger expectations. With this initiative, American Airlines aims to enhance the travel experience and provide added value to its loyal customers.
