Android 15 developer preview version 2 has been released. The first version was introduced about a month ago and didn’t bring significant changes. However, the new Android 15 update stands out with its new features. The most important of these is the Android 15 satellite-based messaging feature.
Android 15 developer preview version 2 update and features
Google continues to progress with the calendar for the new Android version. Android 15, which was first released in February with the developer preview, as expected, appeared with the second version in March. After this, Android 15 Beta versions will be released every month. Google will release the Android 15 final version between August and October.
Satellite-based messaging feature
- As expected, Android 15 developer preview 2 introduced the satellite-based messaging feature. Google clearly states in the press release of the new version, ‘pre-installed RCS applications to use satellite connection for sending and receiving messages.
- In this regard, the satellite-based messaging feature of Android 15 will be officially unveiled. In fact, this feature is also available in Android 14. However, Google has stated that it has further enhanced this feature with Android 15. Google will provide clearer information on when the connection with the satellite is established and how it affects certain application functions.
Notification for screen recording in apps
- The update to Android 15 developer preview 2 will also provide information if there is an active screen recorder in the app you’re using. This feature is an important step for Android user security. It allows users to track whether the Android app they are using is recording screen activities.
- However, this doesn’t refer to video recording of the screen. Some apps attempt to gather data by monitoring users’ interactions on the screen. Android 15 will notify the user about such recording activities.
Second screen support for clamshell foldable phones
- The developer preview version also brings support for foldable smartphones with dual screens. Developers will now have the capability to extend apps to the cover screen of models like the Galaxy Z Flip 5.
Enhanced NFC
- With Android 15, NFC contactless payment is becoming more advanced. When making an NFC payment and full contact is not established with the payment point, NFC will enter an observation mode. This ensures that NFC contactless payment isn’t processed when intended.
Photo Gallery
- With the new Android 15 update, the appearance of the gallery is improved due to the presence of HDR and regular photos together. Android 15 adjusts the spacing more precisely, resulting in a more organized appearance.
Volume Control
- Android 15 developer preview 2 brings the CTA-2075 volume standard to Android phones. With this standard, issues like volume fluctuations during transitions between apps will be resolved. This means Android users will have a more efficient audio experience even with wireless headphones and speakers that support this standard.
