As Google continues its work on the future of its mobile operating system at full speed, the highly anticipated Android 17 codename has finally been revealed. The tech giant continues its long tradition of sweet naming with this new version and is preparing to offer users another mouthwatering name.
Android 17 Codename and Details of the Leak
According to information from reliable sources in the Android world, Android 17 has been internally referred to as “Cinnamon Bun.” This information was discovered through an analysis of the Android Canary kernel code. The phrase “CINNAMON_BUN” in the code officially formalized this naming.

As you may recall, Google used the name “Vanilla Ice Cream” with Android 15, nearing the end of the alphabet. However, with Android 16, the company made the surprising decision to reset the alphabet to “Baklava” instead of switching to the letter “W.” The new alphabetical order that began with this move continues with the letter “C,” leading to Cinnamon Bun.
Technical Details and Release Date
In the leaked code, Android 17 is currently listed as the temporary version code “10000.” However, this number is expected to be updated to API level 37 once the operating system reaches a stable release. Given that Android 16 is set to be released next year, Android 17, codenamed Cinnamon Bun, is expected to be available to users in 2026.
