Google continues to work actively on Android 17. After releasing Android 16 for Pixel devices in recent months, the company has now shifted its focus to the new version expected to arrive next year. Recent leaks have revealed the internal codename Google is using for Android 17.
Android 17 codename will be ‘Cinnamon Bun’
According to industry sources, Android 17 is referred to internally as “Cinnamon Bun.” This will not be the official public name of the software. While Google officially abandoned the dessert-themed naming tradition with Android 10, the company still keeps it alive internally.

The “Cinnamon Bun” name will appear in the “About phone” section of the Settings menu during the early beta versions of Android 17. Once the platform reaches its stable release, it will simply be called Android 17. The same approach was taken with Android 16. If Google follows its usual schedule, the Android 17 Developer Preview should arrive in November this year, with beta builds rolling out early next year.
Looking at past Android codenames, there have been many dessert-themed names such as Cupcake, Donut, KitKat, and Oreo. In recent years, these have been reserved for internal use only. Following Android 16 “Baklava” and Android 15 “Vanilla Ice Cream,” the tradition continues with Android 17 as “Cinnamon Bun.”
