Google is taking a new step to encourage app developers to write more efficient code. The company will now display an Android battery warning on the Play Store. This new feature aims to inform users about apps with high battery consumption.
How will the Android battery warning work?
Google’s new system specifically targets apps that consume high battery power in the background. If an app is designed without adhering to Google’s battery guidelines, a special warning will appear on its Play Store page. This will inform users about the potential battery drain before they download the app.

The warning, which will appear on the Play Store, will state, “This app may consume more battery than expected due to high background activity.” With this warning, Google aims to both protect users and encourage developers to optimize their apps.
In addition to the battery warning, Google recently announced another security measure. The company is adding a new layer called “Developer Verification.” Starting next year, this system will require every app installed on certified Android devices to be from a verified developer. This rule will also apply to apps installed as APKs from outside the Play Store.
Google has made it clear that its new verification system will not prevent sideloading of apps from outside the Play Store. The company stated, “Support for sideloading apps from outside the Play Store is an essential part of Android and will absolutely not be eliminated.” It emphasized that the goal here is not to restrict freedom, but to protect users from malware.
