The end of the road is in sight for Google Assistant. Google has launched the months-long update, and its AI assistant, Gemini, has begun arriving on the Android Auto platform. This new integration aims to completely transform the in-car experience.
What does Gemini offer for Android Auto?
Google CEO Sundar Pichai confirmed last April that Gemini would be coming to vehicles within the year. Now, this transition has officially begun. The new AI assistant offers significantly more advanced features than Google Assistant.

Google demonstrated Gemini’s capabilities in a demo with Mercedes-Benz. The system can now converse with users in a much more natural language. Furthermore, the AI understands context and can easily answer follow-up questions. This provides a seamless experience similar to Gemini Live on a phone.
The new update is being rolled out server-side. Multiple users on Reddit reported receiving the Gemini update. It appears that testers running the Android Auto 15.6 or 15.7 beta versions were the first to access the change.
However, the new system also has some shortcomings. One user noted that Gemini doesn’t yet recognize saved nicknames like “mom,” “wife,” or “boss.” However, despite this minor issue, the overall experience is reportedly smooth.
