On most Android phones, the rear LED flashlight can be used as a flashlight. However, not every phone offers the ability to directly adjust its brightness. Especially on Google’s own Pixel phones, changing the flashlight’s intensity requires using a third-party app. This represents an additional hassle for many users. In fact, many users are unaware of the existence of such apps, leaving them unable to adjust the flashlight’s intensity.
Android Quick Settings Menu Revamped: Here’s the New Flashlight Design
Google is finally preparing to address this issue in a future Android release. Pixel phone users will soon be able to adjust their flashlight’s intensity directly from the Quick Settings menu. The flashlight icon will no longer be simply an on/off button. Instead, it will be expandable and feature a slider that allows you to control the light intensity.

This feature had a rather simple design in the initial test builds (2508 Android Canary). However, Google is now revamping the interface with a much more striking visual update. The latest 2510 Android Canary release introduced a new design for the “Flashlight Strength” setting. This new interface features a vertical slider and visually resembles a real flashlight.
As the user drags the slider from the bottom (off) to the top (full brightness), an arc representing a light beam expands to visualize increasing intensity. This change doesn’t change the way the feature works; it’s purely a visual update to the user interface. While the new vertical design may feel less sensitive than the horizontal design for some users, it offers the same brightness adjustment range as the previous design.
It’s important to note that this new design and feature are still in testing. The feature is expected to reach all users with the stable release of Android 16 QPR3, expected to be released next March.
So, can you adjust the flashlight brightness on your current phone? What do you think of Google’s new visual design?
