Cybersecurity experts have issued a warning about spyware applications that are becoming increasingly common on the Android platform. These apps are designed to infect Android devices with viruses and steal sensitive information. So what can Android owners do against the new “virus invasion”?
SpyLoad virus for Android nearly doubles
In its latest report on the subject, ESET said that the number of SpyLoan apps increased by 88 percent. This led to a 19 percent growth in the spyware category for Android and a 20 percent increase in Android threat detections.
According to the company, SpyLoan is a fake loan app that masquerades as an official service. The app promises users quick and easy access to funds. However, its real purpose is to defraud users and capture their personal and financial information. Even if a user does not apply for or receive a loan, the app asks for personal information.
The fake apps are distributed via social media and SMS messages. ESET also warns that they reach users through app stores such as Google Play.
According to cybersecurity experts, Android users are currently being invaded by an advertising campaign. They point out that scams such as Adware, HiddenApps and Clickers, which account for two-thirds of Android threats, are on the rise.
There are a few simple steps you can take to protect your Android device from spyware apps. First, we recommend that you only download apps from Google Play and check reviews before installing them. Second, try to keep your operating system and apps up to date.
