A potential issue with the hinge of Samsung’s latest foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, has recently come to light. Photos shared on Reddit show that some units are not fully opening as expected. However, it’s currently believed that this issue is limited to display/demo units. Whether other devices are affected remains to be seen.
Galaxy Z Fold 7 Hinge Issue Allegations
At this point, the situation may be the result of harsh treatment of demo models or due to pre-production units not meeting final standards. There’s also a possibility that users failed to fully unfold the phone—either intentionally or by mistake.

So far, there has been no mention of a manufacturing defect or product recall. Samsung has yet to release official durability cycle figures for its new hinge, but the Galaxy Z Fold 6 was known to withstand over 200,000 folds without issue. The Z Fold 7 is expected to match or exceed this performance.
The new hinge technology introduced with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 had a fully open angle between 178.5 and 181.5 degrees, with any deviation from this range covered under warranty. It’s still unclear whether the new hinge on the Z Fold 7 follows the same policy. We’ll know more once customer deliveries begin.
