Google is ending the “Instant Apps” feature that it offered to Android users in 2017 this year. The company cited low usage rates as the reason behind this decision. The Instant Apps feature, which allows you to try Android apps without installing them, will be completely removed as of December 2025.
Instant Apps is closing at the end of 2025!
The warning messages in Android Studio clearly state that the feature will be stopped by Google Play in December 2025. As of this date, developers will not be able to publish a new Instant App and Google Play Instant APIs will not work. In addition, the relevant tools in Android Studio will be completely removed. This change will be reflected in Android Studio with the Otter Feature Drop update.

Confirming Google’s decision, company spokesperson Nia Carter said in a statement that the Instant Apps feature did not receive enough attention and that developers now prefer different ways for app discovery.
According to the information provided by Carter, developers are now turning to new methods such as AI-supported app highlights and simultaneous uploads for app promotion. With this decision, it will transfer its resources to more efficient tools and focus on new strategies to direct users to full-version applications.
The Instant Apps feature allowed users to experience an application or game without installing it on their devices by clicking on the link. In this way, users had easy access to new content and developers could reach a wider audience. However, since the expected level of interaction could not be reached, the system was completely disabled.
Google’s approach to ending low-interaction projects in the application ecosystem has added Instant Apps to the list of closed services, which has been referred to as the “Google Graveyard” in recent years. It is planned to offer alternative methods to users and developers who want to benefit from this feature after December 2025.
