After Elon Musk’s purchase, social media platforms that are alternatives to Twitter are going through hard times. Post News, which emerged as one of these services, announced that it will be officially shut down in the next few weeks.
Twitter alternative Post News canceled
Developed late last year by former Waze CEO Noam Bardin, Post News was supposed to be basically a Twitter-like service. It allowed users to read subscription-based articles from major publishers at affordable prices.
Post News, which managed to get investment from Andreessen Horowitz, aimed to create a “community free of poisons”. The application, which completed beta tests in early 2023, managed to attract the attention of approximately 450 thousand people in this period.
In the meantime, Post News developed a mobile app and started sending real-time notifications. However, Post was said to have “not grown fast enough to become a real business or a significant platform”.
The company is thought to be struggling to create the right combination to realize rapid growth. Users will be able to download content and withdraw their balance from article payments until May 31.
Post News, which aimed to be a Twitter competitor, had a very short life. It should be noted that some alternatives such as Mastodon and Bluesky are still growing.
