Apple is facing a new antitrust lawsuit in the US. As a result of the lawsuit initiated by a law firm, it was claimed that the company has a monopoly in the smartphone market. In this context, the law firm that will challenge Apple argues that it controls the smartphone market with iPhone.
Apple dominates the smartphone market with iPhone
The new lawsuit in the US follows one filed by the Justice Department last March. The tech giant was previously under investigation for its App Store policies. The new case will consolidate the antitrust claims against Apple.
If the class actions are successful, they could cost Apple billions of dollars. In this context, multiple law firms are expected to be involved in the investigation and the company’s dominance in the smartphone market is expected to be examined. Apple allegedly leaves Android brands no chance because of its size in the US market.
The tech giant is also still under investigation by the European Commission for non-compliance with digital regulations. The DMA aims to reduce the market power of big tech companies and ensure fair competition.
The US review comes at a time when Apple is under investigation by the European Commission. Revisions in this context may help address the complaints. In Europe, it will also decide whether Apple acted in compliance with the Digital Markets Act.
Apple has also recently accelerated its efforts for iPhone 16. In this context, most of the production is expected to move to India. While Apple holds only 6 percent of the smartphone market in India, it has a 23 percent share in terms of revenue by 2023.
