Apple AirTag: A Modern Solution for Personal Security and Crime Deterrence
A few days ago, a man in Chicago loaded a large amount of cash into an armored truck for transport. The amount in question was substantial, with information indicating it was $1.1 million. Perhaps even more was being transported.
The cash owner placed AirTags in the money boxes while loading them onto the armored truck and began tracking the money through the AirTag. However, there were ill-intentioned individuals among the transport team. The robbers, believed to be a pair, set aside several cash boxes for themselves during the transport and then fled the scene.
A large-scale investigation was launched, involving the police. However, the case was quickly solved, as the stolen cash boxes contained the owner’s Apple AirTag tracking devices. The owner tracked the movement of the money on his phone and determined where the thieves were hiding. After providing this information to the police, the individuals who stole the money were caught red-handed and arrested.
Initial reports suggest the thieves stole at least $300,000. The stolen money and AirTags were returned to the owner, and the investigation into the incident continues. The cash owner thanked Apple and recommended anyone who needs to perform such transport operations to use Apple AirTags.
This isn’t the first case solved thanks to AirTag!
Many incidents are resolved without making the headlines, thanks to Apple’s AirTag product. It is especially used in Turkey to prevent motorcycle thefts. Many users purchase AirTag devices and track their motorcycles’ location in real-time. Numerous stolen motorcycles have been recovered this way.
We had also mentioned in our recent news that the New York Police Department recommended the use of Apple AirTag. Particularly in the United States, where thefts of Hyundai and Kia vehicles have been increasing lately, municipalities distribute a total of 500 Apple AirTag products to vehicle owners as a precautionary measure.
