Apple is reportedly preparing a major display upgrade for its tablet and laptop lineup. According to a new report from Bloomberg, the company is currently testing OLED versions of the iPad Air, iPad mini, and even the MacBook Air. This move means OLED technology, which promises more vibrant colors and excellent contrast, will also be making its way to Apple’s non-Pro devices.
The iPad mini is Getting Both OLED and a New Design
The most significant development that will bring joy to compact tablet enthusiasts is the iPad mini. Apple reportedly plans to release this smaller tablet with an OLED panel in 2026.

The iPad mini is expected to be the first non-Pro iPad to switch to an OLED panel in 2026. In addition to the display upgrade, Apple is also rumored to be working on a completely redesigned chassis that will include water resistance and an improved speaker system.
Unfortunately, these significant improvements will come at a cost. The report suggests that the OLED iPad mini could be priced up to $100 higher than the current model. Apple aims to improve display quality not only in the mini model but also in its other popular series.
iPad Air: This model is also expected to adopt OLED technology in the coming years. However, the next iteration will reportedly continue to use LCD panels for now to offset costs.
MacBook Air: The company is also reportedly developing an OLED version for the MacBook Air. However, an OLED upgrade for this laptop series is not expected anytime soon. The estimated launch date is 2028 or later.
