Apple Watch has always been a powerful device for tracking your health and achieving your fitness goals. But with watchOS 11, two important changes have made it even easier to achieve your goals. You can now set your daily goals more flexibly and manage your activity across different time periods, such as rest days.
watchOS 11 will offer useful features
When Apple Watch first came out, the three Activity rings were very rigidly defined. To close each day, you had to meet goals of 30 minutes of exercise and 12 hours of standing a day. Only the Move ring could be customized for these goals. In the following years, watchOS also started to allow you to change the Exercise and Stand rings, but the two big changes coming with watchOS 11 are a big improvement, as it’s now possible to set your activities to different days and give you a rest day.
With watchOS 11, you now have the option to pause Activity rings for one or several days. This means that even if you fail to close the rings on these days, your ranking will remain intact. You can also set your daily goals to, for example, move more during the week and rest more on the weekend. These two important changes are a great motivator for maintaining healthy habits.
I’ve seen how these two principles work in my own Apple Watch journey, and I’d like to share my experience. For example, my longest streak of closing the Move ring every day was 285 days. However, COVID happened and I couldn’t get out of bed for a few days. The loss of this streak made me worry about how much time it would take to achieve the same feat again, which was quite demotivating. At this point, the ability to pause my goals would have been invaluable and perhaps I would have returned to my old habits much more quickly.
