Apple may have taken an important step to elevate emergency communication to the next level. The company is preparing to integrate Starlink satellite support into the iPhone through a collaboration with SpaceX and T-Mobile. This means that iPhone’s satellite connection capabilities will be significantly enhanced.
iPhone Could Gain Starlink Support
With the iOS 18.3 update, iPhone users will be able to benefit from Starlink’s broadband internet capabilities even when they’re outside cellular coverage. Now, users will be able to send messages, make calls, and have video conversations without the need for standard cellular connections.

Starlink, the world’s largest satellite constellation, was previously only available on certain Samsung phones. This collaboration with Apple will significantly expand the technology’s accessibility, providing alternative communication options to iPhone users.
Currently, Apple’s satellite connection service is provided by Globalstar. The company paid a total of $450 million to satellite companies for the emergency satellite connection feature it announced with the iPhone 14.
T-Mobile confirmed the Starlink integration through a message sent to beta test users, stating, “You can stay connected via satellite messaging almost anywhere.”
This partnership is also significant for Apple as it demonstrates the company’s intention to strengthen its emergency communication capabilities and offer solutions for users in areas without cellular coverage. Apple first introduced satellite connectivity in 2022 and now aims to expand this technology to more regions.
