Apple unveiled the long-awaited new iPad models globally today. The M4 processor-powered 11 and 13-inch iPad Pro, the M2 processor-powered 11 and 13-inch iPad Air, and the Apple Pencil Pro were introduced. However, a tweet circulating on social media after the event sparked discussion. According to this tweet, Apple’s future CEO may have been present at the event.
Who will be Apple’s future CEO?
Every Apple event begins with a speech by Tim Cook and ends with him mingling among departments. Today, we heard from officials of the relevant units for iPad and Apple Pencil. Shortly after the event, a user shared a post suggesting that John Ternus, Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering at Apple, could be the new Apple CEO. Soon after, technology pundit Max Weinbach, known for his closeness to Apple, reposted this tweet.
Following Weinbach’s move, support and comments flooded the post. So, considering that long-time Apple insiders like Steve Jobs and Tim Cook have become CEOs, could John Ternus really be the new CEO?
Both Tim Cook and John Ternus have played different but significant roles within Apple Inc. Tim Cook became Apple’s CEO in 2011, succeeding Steve Jobs, responsible for determining the company’s strategic direction, managing its overall performance, and maintaining Apple’s vision and values. Under Cook’s leadership, Apple expanded into global markets and launched a series of new products.
On the other hand, John Ternus serves as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering at Apple, overseeing the entire hardware engineering processes of devices like the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Ternus assumed this role in 2021 and serves as a bridge between technical innovations and hardware design.
While both have contributed to Apple’s success, Cook deals with general business strategies while Ternus is particularly involved in product design and hardware development. Additionally, Ternus has been with Apple since 2001, making him a part of the Steve Jobs era.
Therefore, although currently just a rumor circulating on social media, we can say that John Ternus is among the most ideal candidates for the job and that we may see him as Apple’s CEO in the future.
