Last year, Apple introduced the M4 chip series, integrating these new chips into MacBooks and iPads. Following that, all eyes have turned to the M5 chip, expected to launch this year. Recently, a new development regarding this topic has emerged. Here are the details!
Apple Has Started Mass Production for the M5 Chip
Apple has officially announced the start of mass production for the M5 chip. According to reports, the chip’s pre-production process is being handled by TSMC, and it goes through a 3nm fabrication process. It has been reported that the tech giant chose not to go with the 2nm process due to cost reasons. Packaging operations are being carried out by OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) companies.

Apple began the production of the M5 chip series with the base model first. The production of the M5 Pro, M5 Max, and M5 Ultra models will take place at later stages. So, which device will first use the basic M5 chip?
According to current information, the first device to be powered by the M5 chip will be the new iPad Pro. This model is expected to be released either by the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026. Following that, the MacBook Pro will launch with the M5 chip by late 2025, and the MacBook Air will follow in early 2026. Additionally, an updated Apple Vision Pro model with the M5 chip is anticipated to be introduced between late 2025 and spring 2026.
