Apple is now focusing its attention on the automotive sector. Under a new patent called “Restricted Indicator Area,” the company is exploring safety belt technology. This has fueled speculation about Apple’s plans to enter the automotive industry with the Apple Car.
Apple aims to make the safety belt buckle smarter
According to the patent, the innovative buckle will feature illuminated lights and provide various information. The company plans to design a flashing red safety belt instead of the traditional red-colored buckle.
According to the patent design, once the safety belt is fastened, the red light will stop flashing. The buckle will then adopt an opaque color that matches the vehicle’s seat color. Apple wants the buckle to have small holes to allow light to pass through, creating an appealing yet subtle lighting effect.
The patent drawings indicate that Apple may use the word “Push” as an indicator on the safety belt buckle. It is speculated that this indicator will work in conjunction with the safety belt. In other words, the indicator will light up when the belt is brought close to the buckle or after it is fastened.
Although not explicitly mentioned in the patent, it has been claimed that Apple will add haptic feedback to the safety belt. This feature could provide tactile confirmation when fastening the belt.
