We are still a long way from Apple’s much-promised CarPlay 2. However, the company continues to add new features to the existing system and fix old issues. The company has released the new iOS 18.4, and with it comes some interesting new features, including a fix for a known usability issue.
The fix in question applies more to vehicles whose multimedia panel screens are generally larger than most. As previously noted on Threads by Jace Craft Miller, it is now possible to add another row of icons to the app.
The long-awaited feature has arrived in CarPlay with iOS 18.4
As can be seen, the new iOS 18.4 Beta update brings a third row that will accommodate more app icons instead of the two default rows seen today.

CarPlay will be able to take much more advantage of the larger screens on the multimedia panels of cars. However, it is worth emphasizing that the new feature is not available in all vehicles and that the line limit is not known. According to MacRumors, Toyota Tundra’s CarDisplay, which allows for screens up to 14 inches, has a new feature.
With more and more screens having larger screens, it seems natural that navigation systems will also adapt to this. With the latest change, CarPlay can finally come with larger screens.
What is expected from CarPlay 2?
CarPlay 2 aims to take the user experience to the next level with more advanced integration and customization options. Expectations include the ability to manage the vehicle’s climate control, seat heating and other in-car settings directly from the CarPlay interface.
It is also expected to offer larger and multi-screen support, allowing the dashboard, navigation and entertainment system to be controlled simultaneously. Other prominent features include users being able to switch between applications faster and having a smoother interface experience.
CarPlay 2 is also expected to allow users to organize their preferred widgets on the home screen with advanced personalization options. Apple is expected to offer more precise location data, traffic information and better route planning with its improved maps and navigation features.
