Apple announced a few days ago that they will unveil the new iPhone 16 series on September 9th with a live stream from the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park. We know that the event will focus on Apple Intelligence rather than devices. But Apple may have decided to update the iPad mini it introduced 2 years ago. Leaks suggest a new iPad mini is coming.
New iPad mini is coming
Apple introduced its new operating systems and Apple Intelligence at WWDC 2024 this June. Apple announced that it will include OpenAI in all of its operating systems as a result of an agreement with OpenAI. Although Apple Intelligence is officially supported only by OpenAI, Apple is also in talks with several artificial intelligence companies. Only devices with certain hardware will be able to run Apple Intelligence. Currently, iPad and Mac devices with M processors and iPhones with the A17 Pro processor can run Apple Intelligence. That’s why Apple may launch a new iPad mini tablet with an M processor.
Analysts think the new iPad mini could get the A17 Pro or M1 processor. In this way, Apple’s smallest tablet will be able to gain artificial intelligence support in iPad mini. In addition, the currently sold 2021 iPad mini has 64 GB and 256 GB storage and 4 GB RAM. Earlier leaks showed us that Apple will increase the RAM for Apple Intelligence in the iPhone 16 series. iPhone 16 series will be increased to 8 GB RAM, while the iPhone 16 Pro series is expected to come with 12 GB RAM. The RAM capacity of the new iPad mini is expected to increase from 4 GB to 6 GB.
Apple Intelligence is currently only available in beta on iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, iPads with M1 chips and later, and Macs with M1 chips and later. However, when the new iPad mini or iPhone 16 series is released, it may not come directly with AI support. Apple Intelligence will come with iOS 18 and currently only works on devices with the language set to US English.
