Apple introduced a proprietary wireless audio transmission technology called Apple SPR AVS with the new iPhone 17 series. Short for Spatial Relay Audio-Visual Sync, this technology enables near-instant and lossless audio transmission between Apple devices.
Apple Takes the Lead in Bluetooth Technology
Bluetooth audio transmission is known to cause latency, particularly in gaming, video editing, and music production. Apple SPR AVS technology addresses this issue by reducing latency to less than 10 milliseconds.

This allows wireless audio transmission to achieve a quality comparable to a wired connection. The technology also ensures signal stability by automatically adjusting bandwidth based on environmental sounds and the device’s status. For example, the 24-bit/48 kHz support provided by USB-C on the AirPods Max can also be used wirelessly.
The new technology can collect biometric and sensor data in addition to audio. This technology fosters stronger integration between devices within the Apple ecosystem. Multi-device support enables connectivity between Apple devices.
However, while Apple SPR AVS only works with Apple products, Bluetooth audio streaming will continue to be available across all devices. The iPhone 17, AirPods Pro 3, and Vision Pro models will be the first to use this technology.
