Apple may have deceived users about several aspects of its latest Watch models.According to a recent lawsuit in the US, the company said the Apple Watch Series 10, SE and Ultra 2 were carbon neutral.
But users claim its ads are misleading.
Apple’s carbon neutrality claims are being sued
According to the plaintiffs, the Chyulu Hills Project in Kenya and the Guinan Project in China, which Apple is using to achieve its carbon neutrality goal, do not meet the actual carbon reduction criteria. The lawsuit states that these areas are under natural protection or are naturally forested.
This means that Apple’s financial support does not provide additional carbon emission reductions beyond the natural level. Users said they would not buy Apple Watch models if they knew the true environmental impact of the devices.
Within the scope of the lawsuit, it was stated that Apple’s carbon neutrality claims were misleading and that the company should be prevented from marketing the Watch Series 9, SE and Ultra 2 as carbon neutral. It also demanded that the company pay damages.
The lawsuit challenged Apple’s environmental initiatives, such as its goal of 100 percent carbon neutrality by 2030. The plaintiffs believe that the company’s projects in various regions weaken its sustainability claims because they are unrealistic.
The Apple Watch Series 10, which was released in September, is currently the most up-to-date and powerful model available, not counting the Ultra 2.
