Apple announced that it will use images obtained from the Look Around feature in the Maps app to train artificial intelligence models. The company’s official website, which was updated last month, stated that these images will be used to develop artificial intelligence functions such as visual recognition, creation and development starting in March 2025.
Apple Maps is used for artificial intelligence training
Apple uses various equipment to collect street images and 3D data for the Look Around feature. In addition to cameras and sensors placed on vehicles, image collection studies are carried out with backpack equipment for areas open only to pedestrians.

Like its other competitors, the company blurs faces and license plates in the images it publishes. However, it was also announced that only these blurred images will be used for artificial intelligence training. Users can request that their homes be blurred, but this process takes some time.
It is not yet clear which models the company will use these images to train. However, it is estimated that some vehicles under the Apple Intelligence umbrella that offer artificial intelligence-supported features may play a role in this process.
Featured tools include Image Playground for image creation, Clean Up tool in Photos app that can remove unwanted objects, and advanced image recognition features. Apple will share more details about these innovations in the coming days.
