As it is known, Apple purchases its screen panels for iPhones from Samsung Display. The collaboration with Samsung, one of the biggest competitors in the smartphone market, has drawn the attention of many. However, according to recent reports, Apple is seeking to reduce its dependence on Samsung. Apple will produce its own Micro LED screen panels. Here are the details…
A move from Apple against Samsung!
Apple aims to reduce its reliance on Samsung for LCD screen panels. In this regard, the company will transition to Micro LED technology screens instead of OLED and LCD screens. Actually, this was already a known fact, but recent reports revealed that Apple’s efforts in this regard are more significant than previously thought.
According to reports and news, Apple has obtained design patents for the production materials in order to tightly control the production quality of Micro LED screen technology, in addition to designing the technology itself. Furthermore, Apple mentioned that its current suppliers do not possess the expertise to produce screen panels with this technology. This means that Apple is pursuing a new factory.
Generally, Apple provides the design and specifications of a product it wants other companies to manufacture, leaving the actual production to them. However, this time the company is not only designing the equipment to produce Micro LED panels but also actively participating in the production process. This indicates that the iPhone manufacturer is very serious about Micro LED.
Let’s consider this plan from Samsung’s perspective. Does it harm Samsung? The answer is yes. They have had a supply agreement with Apple for a long time, and Samsung Display has been enjoying profitable days thanks to their biggest rival. However, if Apple stops purchasing screens from Samsung Display in the future, the tables will turn. Samsung will lose a major source of information transfer.
