Apple has announced that it is preparing to shut down My Photo Stream, a once popular photo and video storage service. The application, which allowed users to store up to 1000 files for free, will be discontinued on July 26.
Apple will be replacing My Photo Stream with iCloud Photos
The photo and video storage application will retire as of July 26. Apple has invited users to transition to iCloud Photos, which offers more comprehensive features. Starting from July 26, files from My Photo Stream will be archived, and the application will automatically redirect users to iCloud Photos.
Originally launched in 2011, My Photo Stream provided a completely free experience. Users could upload up to 1000 photos and videos. However, with the discontinuation of support, it is worth noting that only iCloud Photos will remain active.
Apple stated that files stored in My Photo Stream will remain accessible until August 25. While the images and videos will not be deleted from users’ devices, they will be removed from the cloud, and synchronization will not be possible. No new files will be able to be uploaded to My Photo Stream starting from July 26.
My Photo Stream was one of the early attempts to synchronize files between Apple devices and web platforms. However, with the advancement of the cloud storage industry, iCloud Photos, which provides secure storage on iCloud, took the forefront.
It’s worth mentioning that every user with an iCloud account has a free 5GB storage allocation. If you require more storage space, you will need to purchase a subscription from Apple. Additionally, you can also explore services like Google Photos or Dropbox.
