Apple is comprehensively revamping the Apple TV app with the iOS 26 and tvOS 26 updates, which will be released this fall. The app is undergoing numerous visual and functional changes, while the new “Liquid Glass” design language, adopted by Apple across all platforms, is being integrated into the TV experience.
Apple TV app is being revamped
The widespread viewing of content on Apple TV+ throughout the year has increased interest in the app. The company is preparing to enter the new broadcast season, which will see the return of shows like Slow Horses and The Morning Show, with a more robust design infrastructure.

Among the improvements to the Apple TV app are a screen layout that allows for more content to be displayed simultaneously, new poster images, a revamped app icon, and a complete overhaul of the menu design.
The revamped visual structure makes content easier to discover. The app now uses vertical poster images instead of horizontal banners. This change allows for more shows and movies to be listed on the screen simultaneously. The new design approach isn’t limited to just visual improvements. The buttons and menus in the user interface also feature a new transparent design language called Liquid Glass. One of the most striking effects of Liquid Glass is seen in the video playback controls. The transparent control panel, which appears on the screen during playback, provides access without visually overlapping the content. The controls overlay the video transparently and do not obscure the underlying scene. This ensures that the user experiences no loss of visual quality when pausing or rewinding the scene.
tvOS 26 will be available for Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K models. However, the Liquid Glass design is only supported on second-generation Apple TV 4K models and later. The hardware requirements for the new design mean that the user experience will vary depending on the device.
The iOS 26 and tvOS 26 updates will be released as part of Apple’s major software updates planned for all operating systems this fall. These updates to the Apple TV app stand out as an update that prioritizes both visual aesthetics and functionality.
