Apple has introduced a new feature with the latest operating system updates across iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. This feature allows users to recover and restore lost or damaged photos and videos directly within the Photos app. Here are the details.
Apple to release an expected feature for Photos
Previously, losing photos or videos due to various reasons within the Apple ecosystem could be frustrating. With the new updates to the Photos app, users now have the capability to scan and recover damaged or lost media files. If there are no files of this nature on your device, you won’t see anything in this folder.
Here’s how you can view recoverable files on iOS and macOS:
Viewing recoverable files on iOS:
- Unlock the Recently Deleted album on iOS 16, iPadOS 16.1, or later using Face ID or Touch ID.
- Tap on a photo or video, then tap Recover. To recover multiple items, tap Select, choose your photos or videos, and then tap Recover.
- Confirm that you want to recover the selected photos or videos.
Viewing recoverable files on macOS:
- Unlock the Recently Deleted album on macOS Ventura or later using Touch ID or your login password.
- Click on the photo or video you want to recover.
- Click Recover.
