Apple Wallet Driver’s License Expands to More US States
Apple is significantly expanding its Apple Wallet driver’s license feature, making it easier for residents in more U.S. states to carry a digital version of their ID. The company announced that seven new states will soon support the technology, aiming to reduce the need for physical wallets for iPhone and Apple Watch users.
Apple Wallet Driver’s License Support Grows
The system, which allows users to add their driver’s license or state ID directly to their devices, is already active in 13 states and Puerto Rico. Following new agreements between Apple and local motor vehicle departments, this convenient technology is set to launch in seven additional states in the near future:
- Arkansas
- Connecticut
- Kentucky
- Mississippi
- Oklahoma
- Utah
- Virginia
This expansion continues Apple’s effort to digitize essential documents, providing a secure and easily accessible alternative to physical cards. Users can add their ID by simply tapping the plus (+) sign within the Wallet app and following the verification steps.
Current Availability and Airport Acceptance
The initiative first launched in Arizona in March 2022 and has since grown steadily. Currently, the feature is fully operational in the following regions:
- Arizona
- California
- Colorado
- Georgia
- Hawaii
- Illinois
- Iowa
- Maryland
- Montana
- New Mexico
- North Dakota
- Ohio
- West Virginia
- Puerto Rico
Furthermore, digital IDs are proving to be a major advantage for travelers. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) now accepts these digital credentials at security checkpoints in over 250 airports across the United States. Some of the major airports supporting this feature include Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International, Los Angeles International (LAX), and Chicago O’Hare International.
