Apple Watch, which we can define as a powerful little computer, will now enter our pockets instead of our wrists thanks to a new hardware project called TinyPod. TinyPod places a strapless Apple Watch in a case that looks like a miniature iPod. A click wheel on the front lets you control apps and actions.
With TinyPod, Apple Watch will offer a phone-less phone experience
When you think about all the things you can do with Apple Watch, you realize that it works like a smaller, more limited version of the iPhone. The device can make calls, send messages, play music, take notes and more.
TinyPod combines iPod-inspired hardware design and the best AirPods pairs to bring together an iPhone and iPod hybrid. This tiny device fits comfortably in your pocket or can be worn on your clothes.
In one of TinyPod’s teasers, the device is described as a “phone away from your phone”. This gives an idea of how the device is targeted. Like the Apple Watch itself, it’s designed to be a secondary device that complements your phone.
Everything this mini-phone can’t do (surfing the web, social media, watching videos) makes it a less distracting and less stressful alternative. It could be ideal for those times when you don’t need a full phone.
There’s still a lot we don’t know about TinyPod, especially how much it will cost and when it will be available for purchase (it’s expected to launch in the US in the summer). But what we’ve seen so far suggests that the idea is promising. TinyPod isn’t the first project to try to turn the Apple Watch into something different: a device called Cake serves a similar purpose and is currently in the prototype stage.
