A recent affordable MacBook leak has emerged from an unlikely source: Apple’s own software. Clues hidden within the latest macOS 26.3 source code suggest the tech giant is preparing to launch a long-rumored budget-friendly laptop, alongside two new professional monitors. The discovery, first reported by Macworld, provides compelling evidence of Apple’s upcoming product lineup.
New macOS Code Confirms Affordable MacBook Leak
Deep within the software, specific codenames have been uncovered that seem to correspond with the new hardware. The most significant finding is the device codenamed “J700”, which is believed to be the new budget MacBook. This aligns with rumors of a three-day launch event Apple is expected to hold in the first week of March. Additionally, the code references “J427” and “J527”, which are thought to be the next-generation standard and high-end Studio Display models, respectively.
Colorful Design and A18 Pro Processor Rumored
According to the leaks, this new laptop will not carry the familiar ‘Air’ or ‘Pro’ branding. Instead, it is expected to revive the classic “MacBook” name. In a surprising move, the device may be powered by the A18 Pro chip, the same processor anticipated for the iPhone 16 Pro, rather than a standard M-series chip. This suggests a focus on efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Further specifications include a 12.9-inch display and 8GB of RAM. The model is also rumored to be available in several vibrant colors, such as yellow, green, blue, and pink, with a highly competitive price point between $599 and $799.
Studio Display to Get Mini-LED Revolution
The new Studio Display monitors mentioned in the code are also set for a major upgrade. It is expected that at least one of the new models will feature a Mini-LED backlight, allowing for a much higher refresh rate of 90Hz or 120Hz, a significant jump from the current 60Hz limit. These displays, allegedly containing an A19 or A19 Pro processor, will likely offer substantially better brightness and contrast ratios than existing models. There is also speculation that the second monitor could be a high-end 32-inch model aimed at top-tier professionals.
