Apple sent the 2.0.73 update to its AirTag tracker, which sometimes saves lives and sometimes causes trouble. However, a date error in the AirTag update format caused the update to be sent to the whole world at the same time.
Apple made a 2000 year old date mistake with AirTag update 2.0.73
While the tech giant sends updates to all devices in the ecosystem, it prefers to send them in batches. The aim here is not to overload Apple servers. However, the latest AirTag update went to the whole world at the same time due to a date error.
A software developer explained this error he discovered on the X platform. Accordingly, Apple normally distributes updates in a month/day/2024 format. However, the latest AirTag update was distributed in a month/day/24 format.
Looks like Apple accidentally set the deployment dates for the 2.0.73 AirTag firmware to “m/d/24” instead of “m/d/2024” that has used in previous versions and which the AirTag update system uses as date format.
In this sense, Apple sent the 2.0.73 update to AirTag trackers all over the world at the same time. The fact that this error in the update occurred in a small-sized device and update seems to have prevented the servers from being affected by this situation.
