Apple has made another major leap in the tech industry by releasing the second betas of iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 to its public beta testers. This step allows everyday users to take a test drive of the software before its grand launch. The second release comes hot on the heels of the first beta, which was released just over two weeks ago.
A burst of new features
The second public beta offers the same content as the fourth developer beta launched last week, but Apple isn’t stopping there. Today, the tech giant also unveiled a revised version of the developer beta. So, what does iOS 17 bring to the table?
Apple’s new StandBy option for the iPhone stands out, turning the device into an information hub when docked and charged. StandBy mode comes alive with the time display, Live Activities, incoming notifications, and a multitude of widgets, bringing your phone to life in an exciting new way.
Widgets and autocorrection steal the show
iOS 17 goes beyond the norm with interactive widgets on both the Lock Screen and Home Screen. These let you control a smart light or check off a Reminder without having to open the app. Autocorrection has received an intelligence boost too, making rectifying mistakes just a quick tap away.
In addition to the exciting new features, the Phone app now has customizable Contact Posters, AirDrop boasts a new NameDrop feature for quick contact sharing, and Live Voicemail now allows users to see the voicemail as it’s being recorded.
Expanding the feature set
The Photos app now recognizes your pets, the Maps app can be used offline, and Safari enhances its privacy with a locked private browsing window. A new mood tracking feature in the Health app and a soon-to-be-released journaling app are the cherries on top of this innovative release.
