The name of the macOS 26 operating system, which Apple will introduce at the WWDC 2025 event next week, has been leaked in advance. According to leaks made today, it is said that the new operating system will be called macOS Tahoe.
Apple macOS 26 was inspired by California’s famous Lake Tahoe
The new operating system is named after Lake Tahoe, famous for its landscape in California. Apple previously named its Mac operating systems after big cats such as Cheetah, Tiger, Leopard and Lion. However, the company switched to California-themed names with OS X Mavericks in 2013. Names such as Yosemite, Monterey, Sonoma and Sequoia were used during this period.

Lake Tahoe is known for its reflective waters. The lake reflects the surrounding landscape, including the mountains and the sky. According to Gurman, this feature will be in line with the rumored glass-like design of macOS 26. The new operating system will include more transparent windows, buttons and icons.
Apple is expected to introduce macOS 26 alongside iOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26 at its WWDC 2025 keynote. The event will take place on Monday, June 9 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time (PT), and on the same day, Monday, June 9 at 8:00 p.m. Turkey Time.
The conference is just eight days away. Apple traditionally introduces and presents new operating systems to developers at WWDC events. macOS Tahoe’s glass-like design features signal significant changes to the user experience.
The company’s continuation of its California-themed naming tradition shows its regional allegiance. The design philosophy is notable for its connection to the reflective features of Lake Tahoe.
