The tension between Apple and China continues. The issue, which flared up again in recent weeks, is becoming even more assertive. According to emerging reports, Apple may have to remove some popular apps and new apps from the China App Store. Here are the details!
Apple needs approval from China for new apps!
In the past weeks, the Chinese government banned the use of iPhones in official buildings. Additionally, they requested that public employees switch to local phones, such as those produced by Huawei. This has once again brought the Apple-China issue to the forefront.
According to the emerging reports, Apple now requires proof of a Chinese government license before new apps are published on the China App Store. Reportedly, the company asks developers to submit an “Internet Content Provider (ICP) filing” when they release new apps on China’s App Store.
This filing is described as a “long-term registration system required for websites to operate legally in China.” To obtain this license, developers either need to have a company registered in China or collaborate with a local publisher.
In short, apps that are not approved by the Chinese government will not be available on the China App Store. The biggest challenge that will arise from this change is that accessing thousands of apps on the China App Store will become more complicated. Users may encounter difficulties not only when downloading popular and new apps but also when trying to access apps like Telegram.
