Embark Studios’ beloved survival shooter, Arc Raiders, is preparing to put its players to the test of a harsh winter. With the Flickering Flames event, starting tomorrow (December 16th), the game world will be covered in a blanket of white, making survival more difficult than ever.
New Map Condition: Cold Snap and the Risk of Freezing
A new map condition called Cold Snap is being added to the servers with the event. Included in the Night Raids and Electromagnetic Storms rotation, this mode will cause water to freeze into unstable ice masses, severely reducing visibility.
The biggest danger is hypothermia. Raiders will start taking frostbite damage if they stay outside for too long. Frequent sheltering and maintaining body temperature will be necessary for survival.
Collect Candleberries, Claim Rewards
The Flickering Flames event aims to bring the community together. Players will be tasked with collecting Candleberries and heat/light sources from the outside world and bringing them to their underground hub. Similar to the Stella Montis event system, completing these tasks will reward players with cosmetics, weapons, tokens, and new items. The event will run until January 13th.
As a New Year’s gift, a new “Raider Deck” is being added to the game on December 26th. This completely free and permanent Goalie pack gives players plenty of rewards, as well as a hockey stick tool for melee combat.
December also marks a first for Arc Raiders: the first Departure window opens. This system allows players to permanently send their leveled-up characters out to explore the world. In return, they’ll earn XP boosts and unique rewards, allowing them to make a fresh start with a new character.
This concludes Embark Studios’ first roadmap. What 2026 will bring for the game remains a mystery for now. Are you ready to survive these harsh winter conditions? Share your thoughts in the comments!
