Tesla CEO Elon Musk made statements about the global decline in car sales in recent months. Musk said that the main reason for the decline in sales was the changes made during the renewed Model Y production; and that sales figures will start to increase.
Tesla’s sales may start to increase again
It is stated that there are temporary stoppages in factories around the world for the new version of the company’s best-selling model, the Model Y, and that this situation is affecting production. Musk said in an interview, “We made a global factory change for the Model Y. Restructuring was necessary for this model, which is the best-selling car in the world.”

Musk also said that such factory renovations coincided with the period when demand was at its lowest during the year and that they observed a new increase in demand. However, the alleged recovery has not yet been reflected in official sales figures.
Tesla’s sales continued to decline in the second quarter of 2025. In some countries in Europe, declines of up to 80% were recorded. In China, the company’s sales decreased by 9% compared to the previous month. In the US, April data has not yet been announced. Because Tesla only shares its sales data with the public on a quarterly basis.
In addition to technical reasons, CEO Elon Musk’s political stance in public is also thought to be effective in the decreasing sales performance. Musk’s close relationship with US President Donald Trump in particular has caused some consumers to distance themselves from the brand.
