Microsoft is launching its new AI-powered tool, Copilot 3D. This free tool, accessible online, allows users to create three-dimensional digital models by simply uploading a two-dimensional image. These models, available for game development, animation, augmented reality, virtual reality, and 3D printing, are available for download in GLB format.
Copilot 3D Launched
Copilot 3D is released as a division of Microsoft’s Copilot Labs. Users can access the tool without requiring a Copilot Pro subscription. The tool currently works with images smaller than 10 MB in JPG or PNG format.

The system is reported to perform best with images with plain backgrounds, well-adjusted lighting, and a sense of depth. Distortions can occur when the background is complex or when images with lively images, such as people and animals, are cropped.
The conversion process takes approximately one minute to complete. Small errors or irregularities can occasionally occur in the generated 3D models. However, these can be improved using cleanup software like Blender. GLB files can be converted to STL format and used directly on 3D printers.
Copilot 3D offers a practical solution for users with rapid prototyping and setup skills, particularly for 3D printing-focused projects. It is also expected to gain traction in gaming and content development due to its acceleration of digital production and design. It is anticipated that the system could be adapted to broader use cases, such as integration with e-commerce platforms, in the future.
