Former Google X executive Mo Gawdat announced that humanity will enter an artificial intelligence-induced dystopia that will last approximately 15 years, starting in 2027. Gawdat stated that the first signs of this dark period began to appear in late 2024. Warning about the impact of artificial intelligence on human life, Gawdat stated that the system could have devastating consequences not only on a technological level but also on a sociological and ethical level.
Will artificial intelligence create a dystopia?
In an appearance on the podcast “Diary of a CEO,” Gawdat stated that concepts of freedom, human relationships, responsibility, reality, and power will be fundamentally shaken by artificial intelligence. According to Gawdat, the main reason for this situation is not artificial intelligence itself, but rather that technology has become a tool that exacerbates existing problems in human nature. “There is absolutely nothing wrong with artificial intelligence. In the age of the rise of machines, there are many things wrong with humanity’s values,” Gawdat said, describing artificial intelligence not as a cause but as a magnifying glass that magnifies the effects.
Artificial intelligence was initially developed to make life easier. The aim was to automate routine tasks to make people work more efficiently and with less fatigue. However, Gawdat argues that the capitalist system quickly exploited this potential.
Companies’ use of artificial intelligence to restrict hiring, burden existing employees with more work, and reduce costs has led to this technology deviating from its original utopia. Gawdat argues that technological advancement, driven by capitalism, has transformed into a structure that marginalizes people rather than fostering human skills.
According to Gawdat, this process signals not only economic but also moral collapse. Examples such as social media’s isolation rather than connecting individuals, and mobile phones’ constant preoccupation rather than facilitating life, are considered further manifestations of this process. It is emphasized that artificial intelligence is on a similar trajectory.
