Ubisoft isn’t done with Assassin’s Creed Mirage just yet. Basim’s story continues later this year, and the next chapter won’t cost players a dime.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage expansion adds new story arc

Fans waiting for updates to Assassin’s Creed Shadows were instead surprised this weekend with fresh news for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Ubisoft announced on its official X account that the 2023 title is getting a new story chapter, and it’s completely free.
The expansion follows Basim into ninth-century alUla, a location rooted in ancient Arabian history. It promises new missions, gameplay tweaks, and added content for both the DLC and the base game.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage content stays true to its roots
This DLC isn’t just bonus fluff. Ubisoft says the update will build on the game’s focus: tight stealth, compact open-world design, and a slower, more deliberate pace that fans of early Assassin’s Creed games appreciated. These additions help deepen Basim’s character arc while expanding the scope of Mirage without bloating the core experience.
A free update born from collaboration
Ubisoft’s latest chapter appears to have backing from Savvy Games Group, a Saudi-supported gaming firm. A Les Echos report earlier this year hinted at this partnership, suggesting the collaboration made the extra content possible.
Interestingly, Mirage was originally pitched as a self-contained story. In a Reddit AMA shortly after launch, developer Stéphane Boudon confirmed there were no DLC plans, though he admitted the team had “ideas of how we could extend the story of Basim.”
What we know about the Mirage DLC so far
While Ubisoft didn’t share a firm release date, they confirmed the DLC would arrive later this year. Here’s what we can expect:
- A new chapter set in ninth-century al-Ula
- New stealth-focused missions for Basim
- Gameplay improvements to both the DLC and the core game
- Free download for all players
Assassin’s Creed Mirage joins Xbox Game Pass this month
While you wait, you can now find Assassin’s Creed Mirage on Xbox Game Pass as part of August’s new titles. It’s a good time to revisit Basim’s journey or start it for the first time before the next chapter drops.
