More than 10 years have passed since the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, but the game is experiencing a resurgence in popularity. According to SteamDB data, the daily player count for Assassin’s Creed Unity on Steam has tripled in recent weeks.
Why Has Assassin’s Creed Unity’s Player Count Increased?
Released in 2014 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, Unity had ambitious goals with its Paris setting. However, the game faced numerous technical issues at launch, quickly becoming the target of criticism. Although its historical setting was praised, the game became nearly unplayable due to its bugs.
Despite Ubisoft’s efforts to fix the game with various updates, players’ perceptions of Unity didn’t change. However, with the start of the 2024 Paris Olympics, there has been a significant increase in the number of players. The opening ceremony of the Olympics included a tribute to Assassin’s Creed and the city of Paris.
The game’s price drop on Steam, where it became available at a 75% discount, likely contributed to the increase in players. Priced at just $6, it attracted the attention of many. The combination of its low price and the influence of the Olympics led to a surge in its player base.
According to SteamDB, the game currently has nearly 3,000 active players. While the peak number of players dates back to 10 years ago when it hosted 12,000 players, this recent resurgence is intriguing.
Additionally, at San Diego Comic-Con, Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which features Yasuke as one of the main characters. However, whether Yasuke was a real-life samurai has sparked significant debate among the game’s fans.
