Asus has officially introduced the new ROG Ally X portable gaming computer. The device comes with features that will make a significant impact in the gaming world. Developed as a competitor to Valve’s Steam Deck OLED model, the ROG Ally X comes with many innovations and improvements. Here are the price and features of the new ROG Ally X…
Asus ROG Ally X price and features
Asus ROG Ally X, equipped with the AMD Z1 Extreme chipset and a 7-inch 48-120Hz VRR screen, stands out with its dual battery capacity, dual storage options, and dual USB-C ports. It also offers 50% more memory at 7500MHz and a 15% performance increase. The device’s ergonomics have also been significantly improved.
Asus completely redesigned the device’s design and internal layout. It now features a stronger, thinner, and lighter chassis. The device weighs only 678 grams, which is just 70 grams heavier than the original model. With a new cooling module and smaller yet more powerful fans, the device operates more quietly and provides better cooling.
The ROG Ally X uses new joysticks with higher quality ALPS potentiometers. These joysticks are of the same quality as those found in PS5 and Xbox gamepads. They offer smoother movement thanks to wider bases and low-friction plastic grips. The joysticks are durable for up to 5 million rotation cycles and are compatible with Hall Effect magnetic joystick upgrade kits due to their modular structure.
The device comes with a full-sized M.2 2280 PCIe 4 SSD slot that supports double-sided drives. Instead of Asus’s proprietary XG Mobile eGPU port, a second USB-C port with Thunderbolt 4 support has been added. This port offers 40Gbps speed, 100W USB-C PD charging, DP 1.4 video output, and 4 PCIe lanes for standard eGPUs.
The D-pad is now eight-way and larger. The face buttons provide a more stable pressing feel thanks to their longer tube design. The speakers have a larger chamber, providing slightly more sound and bass. The haptic motors have been moved to the edges of the device, providing more noticeable feedback. The shoulder buttons are mounted to withstand drops better, and the trigger buttons are wider and made of transparent plastic.
Asus guarantees that the battery of the ROG Ally X will remain at 80% capacity after three years. The device supports 100W charging but comes with a 65W adapter. Additionally, current Ally owners can transfer their settings to the new Ally X via cloud backups. So, what is the price of the Asus ROG Ally X?
The ROG Ally X is available for pre-order at a price of $799 and will be released on July 22. In summary, the Asus ROG Ally X attracted attention with its high performance, improved ergonomics, and long battery life as a portable gaming computer. Let’s see how this device will impact gamers.
