In the past, there have been several negative reports regarding overheating problems with the NVIDIA RTX 4090 graphics card. Many users have expressed concerns about melting occurring at the connection points of the company’s new graphics card. Now, a new claim seems to worsen the situation for NVIDIA.
NVIDIA graphics card is on the agenda with overheating problem
A Reddit user named Shiftyeyes67k stated that the 12VHPWR cable provided with the RTX 4090 graphics card melted on the power supply unit (PSU) side. Previous users had reported melting at the connection point between the cable and the graphics card, but this new claim indicates a much more serious situation.
The user mentioned that they recently began to notice a burnt plastic smell coming from the power supply (BeQuiet Dark Power 13 1000w) and decided to replace it. After opening the computer, the user discovered burn marks on the PSU side of the 12VHPWR cable.
The fact that the power supply, which powers the entire computer, is experiencing such a problem has raised concerns among NVIDIA users. If a 12VHPWR cable gets hot enough to melt right next to the power supply, it can also cause damage to the PSU itself. And this situation could potentially lead to much bigger problems with computers.
Nvidia previously investigated the issue of melted 12VHPWR connectors and concluded that it was due to user error. The company stated that if the cables were not fully connected to the graphics card, there was a risk of excessive heating and melting of the connectors.
While the 12VHPWR connectors continue to pose problems, it is still unclear who is at fault for the issue. Besides the possibility of these cables being faulty, users may still be experiencing difficulties in correctly attaching them. In either case, computer users need to be extremely cautious.
Previous complaints mentioned burn marks on the graphics card side of the cables, but now, with the occurrence of problems on the power supply side as well, all computer components of users are at risk.
