Audi continues to leverage the potential of artificial intelligence to deliver a better experience to its customers and has announced the integration of ChatGPT into its current and future models with its third-generation modular infotainment system (MIB 3) and E3 1.2 electronic architecture.
Audi’s new companion: ChatGPT!
Vehicles such as the new Q6 e-tron and future models with the E3 1.2 electronic architecture will feature ChatGPT via Cerence Chat Pro as an extension of the Audi assistant. This will allow drivers to manage infotainment, navigation and air conditioning systems with advanced voice control and ask questions on general topics.
The ability to request information using natural language increases driving safety by reducing the need for drivers to take their eyes off the road. ChatGPT is available through Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service and is powered by Cerence Inc., which provides an automotive-grade ChatGPT integration. It is based on the Chat Pro solution developed by.
“By seamlessly integrating ChatGPT into voice control, we are combining the strengths of both applications,” says Marcus Keith, Vice President of Development, Interior, Infotainment and Connectivity at Audi.
“ In addition to a range of voice-controlled functions, our customers will now be able to access AI-based information simply and securely,” said Keith . “This is the next step towards a best-in-class in-cabin experience in Audi vehicles .” said.
Audi has developed its self-learning voice assistant, which is available in models with the new E3 1.2 electronic architecture and was introduced for the first time with the new Audi Q6 e-tron model. Drivers can activate the assistant by saying “Hey Audi” as usual or using the push-to-talk button on the steering wheel.
The Audi assistant automatically detects whether it can perform a vehicle function, search for a destination or provide a weather forecast. Only questions requiring general knowledge are directed to ChatGPT.
Drivers have a seamless experience as all functions are integrated into the Audi assistant. Data security is maintained at the highest level and all questions and answers are deleted after processing to ensure optimum confidentiality. Additionally, ChatGPT never has access to vehicle data.
In the future, drivers will also be able to ask questions about the vehicle, such as correct tire pressure. The use of large language models like Cerence paves the way for this and many other use cases. Audi aims to take full advantage of the potential of artificial intelligence to optimize business processes, as well as to offer services and products that will improve customer experience.
Artificial intelligence is being used in a variety of areas, such as as a creative driver in design, as a chatbot for HR knowledge transfer, and to support quality control in production. Control of spot welds in body construction and artificial intelligence-based crack detection in the press workshop are among the brand’s latest applications in the field of artificial intelligence.
Audi also commits to the responsible use of artificial intelligence in its code of conduct and a declaration of principles. In line with compliance, regulation (EU Data Law and AI Law) and ethics, employees are trained to use AI in a future-proof way.
