Baldur’s Gate 3 is getting official mod support and things are about to get even more fun in Faerûn. Larian Studios announced that the official mod support will be rolled out gradually. Starting today with a closed alpha test, this process will be completed very soon with the official release of Patch 7. Here is the date…
Baldur’s Gate 3 mod support is coming in September! So, how will it be used?
If you have experience with mod support in games like Skyrim or Fallout, Larian’s approach will be familiar to you. PC players will have access to a full set of mod creation tools and will test these mods to ensure they comply with the terms of service and general stability.
These mods will then go through additional approvals for console players. Console players will only be able to browse and install mods officially approved by Larian. Larian states that this phased testing process will give the community enough time to thoroughly test the new mod tools.
Additionally, players who want to participate in the closed beta test in July will have the opportunity to register later. Since Larian has no plans to create DLC or a continuation of Baldur’s Gate 3, they aim to offer official mod support, allowing the community to take over the game’s development and keep it fresh for years to come.
Patch 7 not only brings mod support tools but also includes significant content updates, improved bad endings, many minor narrative additions (good news for Wyll romancers!), and bug fixes. After the release of Patch 7 in September, Larian also stated plans to add cross-play support and a photo mode.
The future of Baldur’s Gate 3 seems to be shaped by the creative power of the community. This new mod support will give players the opportunity to shape and customize the game according to their own style. We eagerly await the mod support coming with Patch 7 in September.
